Originally from the UK, Tammy lead finance teams in Australia and the UK before moving to New Zealand in 2003. Prior to joining cbm in 2013, Tammy worked for NGO’s in the Early Childhood Education and Disability sectors.
My passion for cbm:
I am proud to work for an organisation that values integrity, has a demonstrated zeal for people disadvantaged by poverty and disability and is making such a positive difference in the lives of those who need it most. cbm truly does make the world a better place.
My experiences that affirmed this belief:
My grandmother was an accountant. Although she had a disability, was unable to walk unaided and dragged herself up and down stairs to her office at work, I never saw her as disabled. She was always just my grandmother. I feel that cbm values people like my grandmother, observing the disability but valuing the person and their rights and needs.
Working for NGO’s in both the early childhood and disability sectors has confirmed to me that I want to work for an organisation that is making a difference in the lives of people who are truly vulnerable. I worked in private health service industry provider and found it hard to balance the need to make a profit with the desire to provide the best possible outcome for everyone. People who couldn’t pay or weren’t covered by insurance found it hard to get the treatment that would have an immense difference to their quality of life.
Knowing that cbm is helping people with disabilities who live in the poorest countries on earth gives me an incredible sense of purpose and passion to what I do.
